Moss was so funny. A tiny little blanket of green, covering the huge boulder. So soft to sit on, but at the same time slightly uncomfortable because more often than not it was damp. And sometimes when you were walking across it the moss would tragically send you flying to your doom. But Atlas wasn't bothered by the perils of moss-slipping, no. Rather he was concerned with something much greater. Sprawled out across the top of a smooth rock, fluffy belly fur exposed to the sunlight, and eyes shut. Sunbathing.
The forest was rather quiet, with only the occasional leaf rustling or bird song interrupting the stillness. It was nice for a change. Of course Atlas always enjoyed a bustling scene, with insects and birds and cats all chattering together at once. But silence was beautiful in its own way. Ungracefully stretching all four limbs (right down to the toes), he blinked open his eyes and looked at the upside down world. The trees grew from the sky, and their leaves touched bright blue waters. How funny.
Thyme, rosemary, wild garlic... At least a few sprigs of lavender and a poppyhead or two... Oh Ann had her work cut out for her! If only she had help. Perhaps it was time for her to start thinking about taking on an understudy or two. As it was it would take a few trips to find everything and take it home. But Ann didn't mind. The more exercize her little legs got the better. The dappled molly hummed a little tune as she trotted through the forest and towards the ancient boulders. She would find a few of the things that she needed there.
A familiar scent- and not of the herb variety- met her nose when she approached the towering stones. Light and silvery like a misty morning, that was Atlas! Ann's smile broadened and she put her front paws to one of the boulders that smelled most strongly of him. She couldn't see the white tom but knew that he was there. And with legs as short as hers, she couldn't very well hop up to join him. "Hello Atlas! Ann here!" She called out.
A little voice called out to him across the inverted world, startling him. There weren't supposed to be others in his secret little upside down universe! In fact, it startled him so much that he turned his head around (quite fast) to see the invader of secret universes that he tore up some moss. This may not seem like an important detail, but that patch of moss was dry on the top and had been one of the sole forces keeping him attached to the rock. Yet underneath the moss, well it was a whole another story. Damp, moist, and almost wet in some areas. But objectively, very slippery. And so the tom went flying off the boulder, crashing into a patch of ferns beside Ann. Luckily he missed her by only a few paw lengths, because a tom at his velocity flying towards a queen of her size... Well, he didn't want to think about it. Mostly because he had never been very good at calculating the consequences of his actions. Nevertheless, he was lucky. They both were. Scrambling to his paws, he looked bashfully at her and swished his tail in half embarrassment, half greeting. "Sorry 'bout that Ann, you startled me! What brings you here? Wait, let me guess, you're looking for some herbs?"
