RUSSET
I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world
BASIC INFORMATION
Name: Russet
Gender: Tom
Age: 12 moons
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Affiliation: Viridity
Residence: The Viridity Log
Rank: Viridian
PERSONALITY
Appearance: Shorthaired ginger tom with green eyes
General Description: Russet is rather timid; he wants very much to please everyone around him, no matter how hard that may be, and yet he seems to fail at nearly every task given him. He’s simply too cautious when it comes to hunting and fighting, waiting too long to make the spring or unable to harm his opponent in fighting practice.
However he has a strong interest in healing, and it is the one aspect of life in Viridity he takes to without struggle. He can’t bring himself to harm a cat or even prey, but healing them, and making them better, is quite rewarding. He’s not the only one, either, and he takes joy from learning from the older cats, combining the bits and pieces of knowledge in his memory for later use.
Definitely friendly, Russet is a bit of a follow-the-crowd sort; he wants to be liked and so might do things he normally wouldn’t in order to reach that goal.
Strengths: Good memory, quick learner, empathetic
Weaknesses: Timid, pushover, poor skills at hunting/fighting
Goals/Ambitions: To find his place within the colony
Worst Fear: Being exiled
Likes: Voles, healing, companionship
Dislikes: Being on his own, birds, getting wet
Habits: Tends to respond how he thinks he should, not how he feels
FAMILY
- Mother: Ebony - Soror
- Sister: Silver - Soror
HISTORY
Ebony came to Viridity, from Soror, pregnant with her kits. She was accepted and settled in quickly, quite surprised at how well she was treated from the start- and a bit wary too. Life as a Soroian was harsher, even though the cats all got along, and the open friendliness was disconcerting. She was suspicious of the colony’s intentions, but day after day passed where she recieved all the best of whatever she needed- and perhaps she tested them a bit, to see how far they would go. When they hardly faltered in their desire and attempts to do what she asked, she relented.
A moon after her arrival, she birthed two kits: Russet and Silver, she named them. Ebony refused offers from toms to give them a father figure, stating that she would raise them by herself. She was attentive to both, in their early moons, but hardly more than that. When the kits were well weaned on to solid food and beginning to mingle with the colony on steady legs, she almost seemed to shut herself off from Russet, who was the more timid of the two kits; on the day they reached their third moon, she returned to Soror, taking Silver with her.
It felt like abandonment to the young tom, and it affected him greatly. Another queen took him in, comforting him through the loss of his mother and sister, assuring him that Ebony and Silver were still alive, just gone to another colony. It wasn’t very reassuring, considering that his mother had taken his siter and left him alone. He felt that it must have been something he’d said, or done, and it shaped his personality for later moons.
He became desperate to please, pushing himself hard in an effort to make the cats around him proud, going to lengths that he wouldn’t on his own, and taking each failure personally. His introduction to healing, however, when he sprained a leg in a daring and foolish attempt to match an older cat’s fighting maneuver, woke an interest he hadn’t yet felt for hunting or battle.
An attentive cat noticed his interest and offered to train him in healing; inititally, Russet refused, taking his cue from the group who scoffed at the idea of learning boring stuff. But, when he continued to ‘happen’ to wander by as the she-cat was treating others, she took him aside and offered once more. This time he accepted, but it was the she-cat who was the one to speak for him when the shy, quiet tom had trouble admitting his preference for healing to any other skill.
Far from finished knowing every herd and treatment, Russet nevertheless is learning all he can, and with gusto. He’ll rarely offer his own suggestions during treatments, but he has a knack for learning, a gentle demeanor, and a soothing voice for calming stressed cats, all good skills to have in this area of colony life.
