Lightning
Just a young gun with a quick fuse
I was uptight, wanna let loose
I was dreaming of bigger things
And wanna leave my own life behind
Not a yes sir, not a follower
Fit the box, fit the mold
Have a seat in the foyer, take a number
I was lightning before the thunder
I was uptight, wanna let loose
I was dreaming of bigger things
And wanna leave my own life behind
Not a yes sir, not a follower
Fit the box, fit the mold
Have a seat in the foyer, take a number
I was lightning before the thunder

HISTORY
In Patria, Lightning was born to June and a rogue tom. The father was never in the picture, as is the case with many Patrian families. But June more than made up for it. She spoiled Lightning rotten, showering her in treasures, toys, and praise. Lightning lapped it right up, absorbing all of her mother's words and actions into her tiny kit mind and being shaped from the inside out. She grew up to be opinionated, bold, and vain. But her mother loved her all the same.
Lightning evolved into a reckless half-grown. She was always challenging her fellow trainees to races and competitions, excited and eager to prove how good she was. And to the surprise of everyone, this overconfident, vain half-grown wasn't half bad. She won the majority of her competitions though not all. As a Half-Grown she met Fir. He was a handsome tom with swirling chocolate fur and angular features. The two struck up a rivalry which would eventually evolve into a friendship. He was stoic and thoughtful, but stubborn and opinionated. The two butted heads more often than not but it was a good relationship based in mutual competitiveness.
Fir became a citizen before Lightning much to her chagrin. She was so bored as a trainee. Once she'd beaten half of her fellow Half-Growns nobody wanted to compete with her or be her friend anymore. Well, that was just fine. She didn't want to be friends with most of these cats anyways. They were all too lovey dovey and lazy. Nobody in Patria was even in her league except for maybe Fir.
She followed in his steps soon after, becoming a citizen as well. But it didn't feel as good as she'd thought it would. Sure there were cheers, sure her mother couldn't have been prouder, but it felt more like an end than a beginning. And after she'd been so excited to leave the rank of Half-Grown! Lightning was disappointed, bored, and restless. Patria became more and more of an unwelcome and uninteresting place to Lightning by the day. She began to set her sights beyond their borders, considering more and more whether or not she should leave.
After she graduated, Fir became far more kind to Lightning. He would bring her food when she didn't feel like hunting, walked with her when she had nobody else, and talked with her about their dreams. He was a genuinely good friend and Lightning grew to appreciate his presence more. But that still wasn't enough to make her stay.
One late night Lightning approached Fir deep in the wood. She told him he was leaving. He looked absolutely crestfallen but Lightning knew what she had to do to be happy. She would never find happiness or fulfillment in Patria. Soror on the other paw... They lived a dangerous lifestyle full of twists and turns. They were passionate, bright, and much more up to her speed. They took in outsiders much more regularly than Patria, or so she'd heard. She had high hopes for this new colony and set off that very night.
Her acceptance into Soror was immediate. They had a young leader, roughly her age even, who took her into their lands and showed her the ropes with bright eyes. Her name was Roisin, and Lightning respected her. It took guts, courage, wisdom, and strength to be a leader at this age. It only fueled Lightning's ambition. She was excited, she was full of passion and spirit and ready to rumble. She retrained as a predator and reached her full rank much more quickly than she had in Patria. Everything was different here, from how to hunt to the way the earth felt under your paws. And Lightning loved it.
Still loves it. She hunts in Soror now, roughly a season after she's left Patria. She enjoys life here. Revels in the danger, dances the cliffs and laughs in the face of horror. She lives happily and freely where she knows she belongs.
