The warm sun through an open window drew Seraph from dreams of fat mice who couldn’t fit down their narrow holes, and she kept her eyes closed for a moment to hold on to the hazy images before they faded away. Yellow eyes blinked open then, her jaws parting in a huge yawn as she stretched; the body of another cat halted her back paws and a glance over her shoulder showed her that it was one of her many kits.
Drawing her legs back to keep from bothering them, Seraph rose to her feet and stretched that way instead, back arching before she reached out each leg, one at a time, and finally shook out her fur before stepped cautiously around the bodies of her kits and kin. Sophie, she’d already noticed, wasn’t about- possibly awake with the sun and making sure everything was as she’d left it the night before. Perhaps she’d like to share breakfast, if she wasn’t too busy. It couldn’t hurt to ask, anyway.
The sun was brighter outside, and for a moment Seraph halted, soaking it in; she’d do a quick groom before she found Sophie, and enjoy the sun on her fur. For another few minutes she sat on the steps of the cottage, brief pauses to bid a good morning to the cats who passed, before deciding that she’d done enough- her belly wasn’t getting any fuller or quieter.
She’d find Sophie first. That, at least, didn’t take too long. A question of her whereabouts to another cat allowed Seraph to quickly locate her daughter and call out to get her attention as she neared. A purr and a warm headbutt preceded her words: “Up with the dawn, were you? Have you eaten, or would you like to share a mouse?”
