Ah, the ocean. Endless blue waves meeting an endless blue sky. Soft, warm sand squishing between your toes. Salt on the wind and seagulls in the ear. It was a peaceful place. A beautiful place. A place that whispered you are safe here. Paige loved it. Swimming in the sea was one of the few good parts of Summer in her eyes. She generally detested the season for the heat, but there were a few good things that the heat brought with it. The freedom to take off into the water and just let go. Forget about everything while you do flips underwater and feel your stomach turn on your head. Feel the tide drag your paws out, beckoning for you to come and play. Sure there was danger to be found. She'd heard the legends of the beasts known as sharks, but Paige didn't fear death. As long as she lead a fulfilled life and died doing what she loved, Paige was happy.Currently, the chocolate molly was making her way down the shore. Warm sand tickled her pawpads and made her feel at home. Saltwater was hard to get out of your fur, but a quick swim in a pond afterward would take care of it. She didn't mind. Padding down to the water's edge Paige breathed deeply. She took in the salt, the sea, the birds, and the tidepool critters. The ocean was calm today. It was perfect for swimming. Paige dipped one of her front paws in the water carefully, testing its temperature. It was warm. Welcoming. Paige smiled. Her stance was relaxed- something rare for the husky molly. She was all alone here which made it easier.Slowly Paige waded into the water. It let her fur fly free and provided the most perfect sensation. Warmth swathed her legs like a mother's love. She had to be careful though. Stay close to the shore, don't let yourself get dragged out by the tide. Her mother had always told her to swim with someone else present if she was to swim in the ocean, but Paige had very few friends. Perhaps even none. There was nobody willing to take the trek to the endless waters with her except for occasionally her sister, thus more often than not Paige went on her own. Today was one such day. She just had to be wary of the Sea's tricks. Wading up to her chest in the water Paige sighed happily. The tide rolled in and out, gently drawing her further into their warm waters.Paige complied, wading deeper into the water until she had to swim to keep her head above the softly rolling waves. She paddled with all four legs, enjoying the cool yet warm feeling of saltwater on her fur. It was absolutely delightful. Rolling over in the water, Paige did an underwater flip. It was easy in shallow water where if she reached deep enough with her hind legs, she could still touch the bottom. Her stomach filled with butterflies as she turned under the waves and made her giggle as she reached the surface. A rare sound coming from Paige. She played like this for some time. Swimming, flipping, and enjoying the water. Eventually, she tired herself out.Paige sighed softly as she swam further towards the shore until she rested in the shallows. Then, still in the water, she laid down. Her mother had taught her to float when she was young. Her family was made up of talented swimmers and she'd been taught from a young age about the wonders of water. Paige let her muscles go limp and bobbed on the surface of the water, lying on her side but being careful to keep her muzzle above the water. She would just close her eyes for a minute here in the shallows, and then she would go home. Or that was the plan at least. But soon enough Paige drifted off into the realm of sleep. The water was just so comfortable. And when she awoke...She was far, far from the shore.Blue eyes snapped open as water filled her nose. Paige coughed and sputtered, attempting to right herself but found no sand beneath her paws. What...? She looked around her and saw open ocean. The sky was turning a blood red as evening took the beach. The shore was perhaps four treelengths away. Oh stars, oh stars... she began to panic. There could be sharks out here! And she hadn't done all she wanted to do yet, not by a long shot. Maybe she wasn't as ready for death as she thought. Her limbs were sore and tired from all of the swimming she'd done earlier and each stroke that she made towards the shore hurt more than the last. This wasn't good. Was that... A cat on the shore? Paige squinted trying to make the figure out. It.. it was! Oh, thank heavens! "HELP! SOMEBODY PLEASE! HELP!" she yowled at the top of her lungs. Hopefully, this stranger could hear her or at least see her head bobbing on the surface as she tried to swim in their direction."HELP!"
