Summer was almost there. Fir could taste it on the wind. The days grew hotter and longer, the nights grew warmer and shorter. Mollies were in heat and Fir was keeping his distance. He was still sore after losing Lightning, but there was one thing that would make it better. Swimming with his friends and family. Okay, so one molly was included among those, but Jackal wasn't bad. Moss, Raccoon, and Milkweed all certainly liked her. All five cats were currently out at the shimmering pool splashing and having a good time in the refreshing water. It was beautiful out. The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud to be seen. Prey was piled on a flat stone near the pool for easy snacking. They'd been on an exhausting hunting trip prior to swimming, so this was a great way to relax in Fir's eyes.
The chocolate tabby dove from a high rock into the pool, sending shockwaves through the water and splashing anyone who was close enough to him. He plummeted to the bottom, feeling his claws scrape the smooth, reflective stones before he kicked his way back to the surface. Paddling with his legs he kept his head above water and shook it, a wide smile on his face. The first true smile that had been there in quite some time. Plunging back beneath the surface he did an underwater flip, and then two. He wasn't a bad swimmer by any means. His family had been taking him here ever since he'd been old enough to leave the cottage. He'd had his fair share of swimming over the seasons.
Milkweed on the other paw couldn't have been less graceful in the water. He lay sunning himself on the flat stone that housed their prey, paws dangling in the water. He hated to get his fur wet, especially after he put so much work into keeping it well groomed and proper. His gracelessness in the water made the lilac tom self conscious, and he would rather not try it at all than try and make a fool out of himself. Evidently he wasn't the only one having second guesses as Raccoon also lingered near the shore. "Would you like to come sit up here with me, Raccoon?" he offered with a small smile.
"No, come swim with the rest of us! The water's great brother!" Fir called as he resurfaced. He normally wasn't such an excitable cat, but something about the water just brought back memories of kithood that he couldn't resist. He wanted his brother to have the same experiences that he'd had. "Moss is in here~" Fir enticed him. Raccoon and Moss spent so much time together. He had a feeling that his little brother was sweet on the mottled tom, but would never say as much until Raccoon himself came to him about it.
